Is your company using public and media relations as effectively as possible?
Public and media relations are marketing strategies that can boost your overall marketing efforts. What are the basics of PR and media relations, and why are they a great return on investment?
What is considered PR/media relations? Public relations is any effort made to promote a positive perception of your company, cause, organization and/or product. Media relations is anything your company does to build strong and positive relationships with media that result in your company being mentioned or featured in a publication in any space that is not an ad (or that you did not pay for).
Who benefits from PR/media relations? Most companies and organizations can benefit from getting their names out in the right spaces. Having one of your employees quoted as an ag industry expert positions your company as a leader.
Why is PR so valuable? PR efforts increase your organization’s transparency and credibility while establishing your employees as ag industry thought leaders. Done correctly, PR builds trust with current and potential customers, stakeholders, employees and the general public. An Edelman study found that 82 percent of respondents agreed that, “thought leadership has increased their trust in a vendor organization.” That trust is invaluable to a brand’s public perception—and can influence whether or not customers want to patronize your business.
When is the best time to start PR and/or media relations efforts? If you aren’t already utilizing PR and/or media relations tactics as part of your overall marketing strategy, it’s never too late to start! If you aren’t part of the conversation in the industry, you’re not maximizing opportunities to grow.
Why should I put valuable marketing dollars toward PR/media relations? Including PR and/or media relations efforts as part of an integrated marketing communications plan is just good business—and takes your marketing efforts to the next level.
