Farmers and Ranchers Discover What’s New at Winter Shows

If attendance at two key ag industry trade shows is an indicator of the ag economy, then the outlook for 2018 is good.

Both the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) annual convention and the National Farm Machinery Show (NFMS) drew large crowds of ranchers and farmers to see what’s new in beef production and ag equipment respectively.

Phoenix, Ariz., played host to the NCBA annual convention and trade show with nearly 8,000 beef producers and industry representatives in attendance during the first week of February. Every aspect of U.S. beef production was represented at the NCBA trade show. Both producers and exhibitors were cautiously optimistic about the economic outlook for the beef industry in 2018.

“The company representatives and producers I talked to expressed optimism,” said Greg Guse, Paulsen EVP and industry analyst.

“Our clients were pleased with the conversations they had with customers and prospects. Producers were there to actively seek out new products and services in the beef industry. The attitudes were upbeat, which is encouraging,” he added.

The National Farm Machinery Show was held in Louisville, Ky., February 14-17.  With over 300,000 attendees and 860 exhibitors, the NFMS is the largest indoor ag expo in the U.S. Paulsen representatives Kristi Moss, Juan Rodriguez and Greg Guse attended the event, with a number of agency clients exhibiting.

“It was very impressive to see so many farmers attend this show. And the exhibits were equally impressive with lots of new products and new equipment models on display,” said Juan. “There seemed to be a great deal of interest in what’s new, which should translate into sales for those exhibitors.”
