Fresh Look: World Dairy Expo 2016

October 11, 2016

This October, I had the opportunity to attend my first World Dairy Expo.

Having worked in ag for several years now, I was familiar with the event and had assisted many clients with their booths, materials and special events for the Expo. But I quickly learned that working to support the extravaganza and actually attending are two very different things.

I stepped foot on the Expo floor with two senior Paulsen employees. One thing I know for certain is that it doesn’t matter how many times you find yourself in Madison, Wisconsin—free grilled cheese sandwiches and delicious straight-from-the-dairy ice cream will always have the power to turn a vice president into a kid in a candy store.

I was excited to read that over 72,000 dairy professionals came to World Dairy Expo 2015, including over 3,000 international visitors from over 90 countries. And while I haven’t been able to confirm the final count for 2016, I venture to say they didn’t lose any attendees. The place was packed. It was interesting to see people from all over the world come to an event in Madison, Wisconsin.

It was fun to witness the dairy cattle shows, which are known for being the best in the world. It was clear that traditions are very important at World Dairy Expo. During the shows, organ music played in the Coliseum, which I found entertaining. The level at which dairy cows get pampered at the show is amazing.

A number of Paulsen clients were represented at World Dairy Expo this year. We also met with many media reps from the industry. It was a very busy couple of days filled with many meetings, a ton of learning and plenty of cheese.

In the end, my very first World Dairy Expo was perfect. I can’t wait to return next year.
