South Dakota Corn Growers Annual Meeting

January 28, 2014

Several Paulsen staff attended the 2014 South Dakota Corn Growers Association Annual Meeting on January 13 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.

Events included a lively panel discussion on nutrient management and regulations with opposing viewpoints from Sarah Bittleman of the EPA in Washington, D.C.; Don Parrish representing American Farm Bureau; and Pete Jahraus from the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Mike Pearson, host of the Iowa public television show, Market to Market, and the owner/operator of Pearson’s Ranch in Grinnell, Iowa, gave an entertaining look ahead at the outlook for the farm markets and what’s driving ag in the year ahead.

A panel of speakers on conservation compliance discussed the Farm Bill debate. Conservation compliance is being considered for crop insurance, and wildlife groups are making this a number one issue. Participants included Michael Alston, USDA Risk Management; Bruce Knight, Strategic Conservation Solutions; and Warren Formo, Minnesota Agriculture Resource Center.

An afternoon panel featured discussion on sustainable agriculture.

The evening banquet included a video presentation created by Paulsen, an awards presentation and entertainment from That 60’s Show, a musical production that salutes the 1960s.
