South Dakota Corn Growers Focuses on Future Opportunities at 31st Annual Meeting

January 23, 2017

The South Dakota Corn Growers Association (SDCGA) held its 31st annual meeting at the Sioux Falls Convention Center on January 21. The daylong event featured free educational presentations from industry leaders, including Dr. Nicholas Goeser, National Corn Growers Association, Dr. Wayne Honeycutt, Soil Health Institute, Dr. Doug Karlen, U.S. Department of Agriculture, David DeGennaro, National Wildlife Federation, Christy Seyfert, director of crop insurance at Zurich and Ted Seifried, chief market strategist and vice president of the Zaner Ag Hedge Group.

The day concluded with a banquet and presentation by keynote speaker, Chris Novak, CEO National Corn Growers Association. Lisa Richardson, SDCGA Executive Director, received special recognition for her 20 years of service to the organization.

A common theme throughout the event was hope for a better future—more specifically, how corn growers see forward progress on important issues, such as railway legislation, conservation efforts, wetlands mitigation banking and a carbon pathway to create greater market value for sustainable farming practices.

The Surf City Allstars, a tribute band to the California surfing sound of the 1960s, provided live musical entertainment.

Several Paulsen staff members were in attendance, and Paulsen created videos, invitations, programs and more for the event.
