World Pork Expo Alive and Well

If a large number of attendees and positive attitudes of exhibitors are accurate indicators, then our pork industry is doing quite well, as evidenced by the recent World Pork Expo held June 4-7 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Paulsen staffers Krystil Smit, public relations director, Allyse Thaler, account coordinator, Chelsey Johnnson, PR intern and Greg Guse, executive vice president, business development, spent a day at the annual swine event to network with agency clients and ag media representatives and to learn what’s new in the pork industry.

Paulsen clients Hubbard Feeds Inc. and Big Dutchman Equipment were among the many companies exhibiting at the trade show.

“It was great to reconnect with our clients and observe their sales teams interacting with swine producers attending the show,” said Allyse Thaler. “These events are excellent learning opportunities not only to see our clients in action, but also to see how their competitors are presenting their products and services,” she added.

PR director Krystil Smit was impressed with the number of visitors from other countries attending this year’s Expo.

“I was amazed at the number of foreign visitors representing countries from throughout the world who were very actively taking in all aspects of the trade show,” she explained. “Our pork industry has truly become global in its scope and impact. And there seems to be a great deal of interest in all facets of our swine industry from these visitors. It’s a strong indication of how healthy the industry is right now,” said Smit.

Paulsen summer intern Chelsey Johnson, a senior ag communications and dairy production major at SDSU, enjoyed her first visit to the World Pork Expo.

“Having attended World Dairy Expo multiple times in the past, it was exciting to see the place where another industry comes together to share ideas, products and enthusiasm for their industry. I was impressed by the size of the trade show and enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the pork industry,” she said.

After a day of touring the Iowa State Fairgrounds, site of the World Pork Expo, the Paulsen Team seemed to agree: the World Pork Expo, and the industry it represents, is indeed alive and well.
