In her role as general counsel at Sukup Manufacturing Co., Emily Schmitt manages a wide variety of legal issues including intellectual property, litigation, public policy and human resources. She visits with Sara Steever about her various roles and her passion for the Sukup Safe T Home®, which are designed for people whose homes have been destroyed by natural disasters.

Emily Schmitt is in the third generation of family active in Sukup Manufacturing Co., the nation’s largest family-owned, full-line grain drying and storage equipment manufacturer. She serves as general counsel for the company, which employs more than 600 people. Schmitt earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Iowa State University in 2008 and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law with high honors in 2011. As general counsel, she manages a wide variety of legal issues. Schmitt also promotes and speaks about the hurricane-proof Sukup Safe T Home®, 300 of which have been placed in Haiti. She and her husband reside in Clear Lake, Iowa, with their two daughters.
