January 31, 2019

“Truly everything you learn on the farm helps you at some time in your career—you just never know when.” –Nancy Johnson

As executive director of the North Dakota Soybean Growers Association, Johnson has combined her farm background with her education in marketing and communications to create a dynamic career path. She discusses her career experiences and offers advice for those entering the field.

Nancy Johnson

Nancy Johnson grew up on a corn, soybean and hog farm in southern Minnesota. She attended Southwest Minnesota State University, focusing on marketing and communications. Johnson began her career as a TV reporter, and when the station needed someone who “knows the difference between corn and soybeans,” she became the ag reporter. She subsequently worked on print publications and at an advertising agency. Since 2013 she has been with the North Dakota Soybean Growers Association, where she uses her early career experience daily.
