Why Conduct a Membership Survey?

January 9, 2017 • 1 minute read

Oftentimes, any organization’s primary feedback on products and services comes in the form of anecdotes or complaints. But to really understand how members feel about your cooperative, the best thing to do is ask.

Through a member survey, you can get answers to questions such as:

  • What are members saying, hearing or thinking about your co-op?
  • Are members’ grain marketing, agronomy, feed and fuel needs being met?
  • Are members satisfied with the level of service they receive?
  • Are competitors in your service area gaining sales and market share at your expense?
  • What would influence members to do even more business with your co-op?

Responses to key questions can be extremely valuable when planning for the future of your cooperative.

Paulsen offers a number of market research tools that can provide powerful information. These include telephone and online surveys, focus group interviews and one-on-one interviews with board members, co-op employees and co-op member-owners.
